Eight months after the official kick off of IYA2009, this IAU General Assembly Special Session on IYA2009 is showcasing what the countries, institutions and projects worldwide are implementing during 2009, and offering a chance for stakeholders to exchange ideas and resources for the final months of 2009.

Galaxies Collide
Galaxies are in constant motion. This pair of crashing galaxies is called "The Antennae" because the long streamers of stars thrown off early in the collision resemble an insect’s antennae.
